Fujifilm X-E Series

Fujifilm's compact rangefinder-style APS-C mirrorless.

The X-E series is the slim, rangefinder-style option in the Fujifilm lineup — delivering X-mount image quality in a more pocketable body than the X-T line. The X-E2 matured the formula with reliable phase-detect AF; the X-E3 added the 24MP X-Trans III sensor with a touchscreen and Bluetooth; the X-E4 stripped further to a minimalist flat body with the 26MP X-Trans IV sensor.

Generation 1

Fujifilm X-E2

£150 Released 2013 The X-E2 is where the X-mount system matured. The X-Trans II sensor delivers rich, film-like rendering that still looks beautiful, and the rangefinder-style body is slim and pocketable. Manual aperture ring support, a quality EVF, and Fujifilm's colour science make it a rewarding camera to use. A bargain on the used market for anyone who wants the Fujifilm experience without the modern price tag.

Generation 2

Fujifilm X-E3

£300 Released 2017 The X-E3 is the lightest Fujifilm interchangeable-lens camera with the 24.3MP X-Trans III sensor. Its slim, compact body appeals to street photographers who find the X-T line too bulky. The touchscreen joystick and Bluetooth connection are welcome additions. 4K is technically available but limited to 15fps — this is a stills-first camera. An excellent compact travel camera at used-market prices.

£699 Released 2021 The X-E4 is for photographers who want the minimum camera that still delivers maximum image quality. If you love shooting from the rear screen and want the smallest possible X-mount body, this is your camera. If you need a viewfinder or IBIS, look at the X-S20 or X-T30 II.
