What can I do
on GearFrame?

GearFrame is a free UK camera buying guide. Here's everything you can do — from your first search to clicking through to buy.

Your journey on GearFrame

🔍

Step 1 — Browse & search

Find the gear you're researching

Search by camera name, brand, or category — or browse by type: mirrorless, DSLR, compact, lens, or accessory. Every product has a full spec sheet, editorial description, and a buying recommendation. The catalogue covers 120+ products, with more added regularly as new gear launches.

Step 2 — Read the editorial

Understand what you're actually buying

Every camera and lens page includes an editorial score out of 10, a one-line verdict, pros and cons, and a breakdown of who the camera is genuinely suited to. We also flag known issues — real-world complaints from owners — so you're not caught out after buying. These assessments are research-based, synthesising manufacturer specs, professional reviews, and owner feedback.

Step 3 — Compare

Put two cameras side by side

Head-to-head comparisons let you see exactly where two cameras differ — sensor, resolution, autofocus, video spec, stabilisation, burst rate, weight, and more — with plain-English context for what those differences mean in practice. Each comparison also includes editorial verdicts and individual scores, so you're not just looking at spec numbers.

Step 4 — Use the tools

Not sure which camera to buy? Three interactive tools are built into GearFrame to help you narrow it down without having to read every product page. See below.

Step 5 — Buy direct

Click through to the retailer

When you're ready to buy, GearFrame links you directly to the retailer's product page. We never handle payments, hold stock, or act as an intermediary. You're transacting directly with the retailer — with all their consumer protections and return policies intact. GearFrame currently links to Amazon UK and eBay, with more retailers planned.

Some links are affiliate links — this is how GearFrame stays free. It does not affect the prices you see.

Common questions

Quick answers to things people ask when they first land on GearFrame.

Is GearFrame free?

Yes, completely free. No account needed to search, compare, or use the tools. GearFrame earns a small affiliate commission when you click through to a retailer and make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. That's how the site stays free.

How accurate are the prices?

Prices are manually maintained and may not reflect real-time changes. Always confirm the final price on the retailer's page before purchasing — retailers can change prices at any time and GearFrame isn't updated instantly.

Are the editorial scores based on hands-on testing?

No — our assessments are research-based, not hands-on. We synthesise manufacturer specifications, professional reviews, and known owner feedback to produce scores and verdicts. We're transparent about this. See our Methodology page for the full breakdown of how assessments are produced.

Why are only Amazon and eBay listed as retailers?

Amazon UK and eBay are our current starting point — they cover the widest range of products and have established affiliate programmes. We're actively working to add specialist UK camera retailers like Wex Photo Video, Jessops, and Park Cameras as the catalogue grows.

Does GearFrame recommend certain products for commercial reasons?

No. Manufacturers cannot pay to influence our editorial scores, and retailers cannot pay for better placement. Affiliate commissions are earned only when you click through and buy — not for featuring a product or retailer more prominently. Tool recommendations are based purely on how well a product matches your stated criteria.
