Kodak Ektar H35

The Kodak Ektar H35 is an affordable, cheerful half-frame 35mm camera that makes film photography genuinely accessible. Its fixed-focus 22mm f/9.5 lens keeps almost everything sharp from about 1m onwards, and the built-in flash handles indoor and overcast shooting. Like the Pentax 17 it shoots two frames per negative, giving 72 shots from a 36-exposure roll — excellent value when you're learning to shoot on film.

GearFrame's Take

A delightful entry point into film — affordable, simple, and produces genuinely lovely half-frame pairs. The best value film camera on the market.

Great For
📷
Everyday Point, shoot, advance. The simplest possible film experience — just enjoy the process.
✈️
Travel 72 shots per roll stretches your film budget nicely on longer trips.
🏙️
Street Fixed focus is quick and instinctive. Works best in good light.
👤
Portrait Keep your subject 1.5m+ away and the fixed focus does its job. Flash adds a pop of catchlight.
🏔️
Landscape Everything beyond a metre is in focus. Pairs well with a slower, contrasty film stock.
⚠️ Not Ideal For
🌙
Low Light The f/9.5 lens needs good light. Flash helps indoors but gives a harsh direct look.
