Polyboards are large, light foam boards — white on one side to bounce light and black on the other to absorb it — and they are one of the cheapest ways to control light in a studio. Buy them with polystands or clamps that hold them upright without a C-stand. For backgrounds, a paper roll support lets you pull fresh seamless paper down as you go; check the width suits your rolls and the space you have. If you work in a small room, stands and supports that fold flat are worth paying for.
What is a polyboard used for?
A polyboard is a large sheet of polystyrene used to bounce light back into the shadows (white side) or to block and absorb light for more contrast (black side). Two boards hinged together make a V-flat that stands on its own.
Do I need a dedicated studio to use this equipment?
No. Polyboards and a paper background turn a spare room or garage into a working studio, and they pack away flat when you are done.
